2017 Round Up | Best in Beauty

My makeup routine throughout 2017 has been pretty dull. I've generally stuck to the same dozen or so products and haven't really bought many new items. That being said I feel like this means that the products I have been using are products that I love.

December Reading Wrap Up

I'm really pleased with my reading this month. Generally I'm a mood reader and I can't just pick up any book and get through it. This month I was determined to finish some books I'd previously started and put down due to not being in the mood for them. Thankfully it worked and I can officially cross them off my ever mounting TBR list.

I think I've forgotten how to read! I'm getting very used to having everything read to me. Every one of the ten books I finished this month were books that I listened along to. I got the first three illustrated Harry Potter stories for Christmas though so I'll definitely be kicking off 2018 with physical books.

November Reading Wrap Up

After a slow start to the month and teetering on a slump I managed to clawed it back. November wasn't my best reading month but it wasn't bad by any stretch. Books two and three were tiny but they still count.

This month I read 5 physical books and 1 ebook.
I also listened to 4 audiobooks.

My Goodreads ratings ranged from 'I still can't decide' right through to 5 stars.

Christmas Wishlist 2017

We're super close to the end of another year. But first, Christmas!!
This is what I've got on my wishlist.

I've really been trying to limit the amount of makeup I buy because, like with everything, I abandon everything I already own everytime I get something new. I'm trying to use something up before I replace it with something I've had my eye on. That being said this palette is so pretty that I might not be able to resist much longer! I have the Jouer essential matte and shimmer palette and it's probably my favourite palette so I'm super keep to get my hands on this one as well.

Stella is one of my favourite scents and naturally I seem to have run out of all of my perfumes at the same time. If my letter hasn't gotten to Santa in time then I'll be grabbing myself a bottle in January.

You literally can't go wrong with Kat Von D. My lips are the one part of my beauty collection that I've managed to get completely cruelty free throughout this year and I'm keen to make sure I'm keen to own every KVD liquid lipstick out there.

Harry Potter Illustrated Editions

I started a Harry Potter reread this year but then I put these on my Christmas list so I didn't get further than the first book. Hopefully I will end up with these in my stocking and I can reread with the beautiful illustrations as well.

My funko collection currently consists of three pops and I'm very keen to grow it. I really want Hagrid to stand guard over my book collection. Naturally I want the whole cast but Hagrid is a great start.
La La Land is potentially my favourite film having seen it way back in January. I'm so obsessed with the Mia and Seb figures. You can't really get a lot of merchandise for this film so I really need these.
My very first funko was Tina Belcher and it just isn't right not having the trio. The Belcher kids are a team! This year I'm asking for Louise and then next year I can ask for Gene.

Does anyone else feel like your Christmas list gets shorter as you get older??
What have you asked for?

October Reading Wrap Up

In October I completed 15 books.  Despite reading so many books I don't feel like I achieved a lot. I think that stems from the fact that a lot of the books I did read were read in one sitting and I didn't love most of them. I may be reading a lot of books but I'm feeling pretty 'meh' about most of them.

I read 9 physical books and 4 ebooks. I also listened to 2 audiobooks but that's from being too lazy to hold an actual book, I still don't think they're my cup of tea. My goodreads ratings ranged from 2 stars right up to 5 stars so slightly better than last month.

I've blurred the line between non-spoiler and spoiler in a lot of my thoughts so if  you haven't read but want to read any of these then I'd probably skip my thoughts paragraph for that book.

September Reading Wrap Up

Oh hey. This is my first post in about 5 months, I'm aware that's awful.
So this is a bit of a change in blog content but I feel like I spend every spare minute reading so it really is all I have to talk about.

In September I managed to complete 13 books. I read 8 physical books and 5 ebooks. My goodreads ratings ranged from 1 star right up to 5 stars so a real mix.

A Weekend in Liverpool

I don't get out much so this post is mainly to show off that I actually left my house to go somewhere other than work.
We stayed, as we do everywhere we go, in a Travelodge. They are always in the most amazing locations and we got ours for an absolute bargain considering this was the view.
Look at that sunset!!

Our trip to Liverpool was originally supposed to be a trip to watch the gymnastics but by the time we collectively got our shit together the tickets were sold out, so instead we just had a lovely weekend away.

My sister wasn't too happy that this was as close
as she was going to get

My town is ridiculous for shopping. We have New Look, Topshop and not a whole lot else so it's always nice to head to a city and have a look around. As it turns out it's impossible to head to Liverpool One without doing a hefty amount of shopping. Day one included lots of that. Nothing too spendy though, that came the next day from the bad influence of my sister. I spent £13 in Urban Outfitters on a book which I'd best describe as a 'coffee table' book.... I don't have a coffee table. It's been added to my bookcase probably never to be read. Don't cave to peer pressure, kids.

The second day was more cultured with a trip to the docks, after the obligatory second Primark visit. There are always the things you regret not picking up the first time.

I think it helped that the weather was bloody wonderful that weekend but look how pretty it is! I imagine if I lived there (and drank) I'd spend most of my summer living on the docks as the amount of bars in that one small space is something else.

It wouldn't be a trip away without at least one museum visit. Weirdly there are a handful buried between all of the bars and shops. One building we went in housed facts about the Titanic, slavery and customs. I'm obsessed with Nothing to Declare so I loved that last one.

Two days is definitely not enough time to really explore Liverpool, I'm already planning another which hopefully will be longer.
That being said I'm going to make it my mission to get out of my town more often, even if it is only for a weekend. All of the places I don't live make me super happy. Especially Liverpool. Where else do you see women shopping with their curlers in and not bat an eyelid?

April Favourites

Hey folks, I hope you all had an amazing April. It's time for another roundup.

Watching πŸ“Ί
Anything and everything with a superhero in. I've been totally immersed in the Marvel universe this month. I’m 100% Team Cap but that could be something to do with my Chris Evans obsession πŸ˜‰

Another month calls for another new tv obsession. I started The Originals a while ago and didn't get into it but I gave it another go recently and I've almost marathoned the first three seasons in less than a week. I'm reluctant to say it but I think I prefer it to The Vampire Diaries.

πŸ’„ πŸ’…
I haven’t honestly been wearing much makeup this month. Out of the house at least. There’s no boredom that can’t be cured by playing around with makeup.
My main love this month is actually more of a love/hate. Benefit’s They’re Real mascara makes my lashes look brilliant. I love the separation and length that it gives. One small snag…my eyes hate it. It makes my eyes stream like crazy. Does anyone know of any dupes??
I’ve also got a perfume favourite this month. Red Door by Elizabeth Arden has been a constant in my collection for about 10 years but I’ve never gone through a bottle at quite the rate I have this month. It’s such a sophisticated smell, it definitely reminds me of older generations but I’m obsessed.

Listening πŸŽΆ
April’s Top 5
All Time Low – Life of the Party
Paramore – Hard Times
Steps – Story of a Heart
Ultravox – Vienna
Harry Styles – Sign of the Times

Can we all just agree that SOTT is amazing?! It’s literally everything I wanted from Harry as a solo artist and more.

Two of my favourite things collided at the beginning for this month. London and gymnastics. Never in a million years did I think I’d ever actually end up seeing Verniaiev compete but that’s one crossed off the bucket list. The atmosphere in the O2 was incredible and I definitely plan on going to more events there in the future.

My Trek America trip fell through towards the end of March but this month I’ve booked a week in Florida as a replacement. I've now got 10 months to work out whose wand I'll be buying in Ollivanders

What are you listening to at the moment?

Jouer Palette

I know I've literally just posted my ultimate eye products professing that the original Naked palette is the be all and end all of palettes but there's a new palette in my collection which is making me rethink it all.

This was a complete impulse buy. As soon as I opened the 'just arrived' email from Beauty Bay I was on the site buying this. I was after an orange shadow and I wasn't blown away by the 35O palette. That has since moved on to another home and I've been reaching for this one almost daily.

I wish I'd done the blogger thing and taken pictures before diving in but I was just too excited to get these shades on my face. The palette consists of 7 matte shades and 5 shimmer shades and i'm obsessed with them all.

Clearly thinking I'm BNTM....But seriously, loving having orange eyes!

Every one of the shades is amazingly pigmented. Each shade compliments the rest of the palette meaning you can create dozens of different looks. I'm not that talented myself but I'm working on it. As a complete amateur I love how blendable these are, especially as I get zero fallout.

The size of the mirror is another plus for me....They just keep on coming! You could (and I regularly do) use this as the mirror to do your face on the go. This is the first Jouer product I've tried but, given how obsessed I am, I now want to try everything they have to offer.

What are your favourite Jouer products?

March Favourites

Reading πŸ‘“
I Am Not A Serial Killer by Dan Wells. I love this!
The book is written from the perspective of John Cleaver who works in the family mortuary and has an obsession with serial killers. He is a sociopath who has a list of rules he follows to appear outwardly 'normal' but when a serial killer turns up in town he faces an inner battle. Should he let his inner 'monster' out? It might save people but would he be able to control himself? I'm rubbish at describing things. If that sounded a bit naff, it really isn't'
I think the story is brilliantly written. It's a must read for any fans of mystery fiction. Goodreads

Watching πŸ“Ί

WAGS...What can I even say about this? It's my new guilty pleasure show. Like, some of the drama is totally cringe but I'm running out of episodes to watch. I hate catching up with shows and having to wait between episodes.

Will anyone be able to do a favourites this month without mentioning Beauty and the Beast?? I was a little late to the party but it was so beautifully shot. Also, my family left the cinema with a collective love of Luke Evans

Beauty πŸ’„ πŸ’…
On my cheeks I've fallen in love with a blush from Emite Makeup. I'm not going to lie, I'd never heard of them until I received this in a Glossybox. It is also a shade that I would never reach for in a shop but I'm obsessed! This is very pigmented so I do have to use a light hand but I'm loving how natural it looks.

Listening πŸŽΆ
I finally got around to watching Moana and I'm obsessed. It's pretty much all I've listened to on Spotify this month.  That being said, I'm totally behind on all of my youtube subscriptions from March because everytime I open the site I end up in a Backstreet Boys spiral. I was never the biggest fan, they flew under my radar a little bit but I'm more than making up for that this month. Can they please just come and do some shows over here??!

Loving ♡
Liverpool! I don't think I've been to Liverpool since 2014 but I honestly think it's the most beautiful city and I can't wait to go back.

Thanks to (unintentionally) saving up all of my holidays at work, I've had most of this month off. I do enjoy my job but it's been nice to have a breather and I honestly think I'm going to struggle next week when I have to go back.

Top 3: Vegan Snack Edition

When I tell people you eat vegan, they generally have two questions.
1) Why?
2) So what exactly do you eat?
They then generally proceed to tell me that they could never do it because they'd miss chicken nuggets.
In answer to the second question I always say that I've probably got the most unhealthy diet in the world, I definitely don't only eat lettuce and I feel like the only person on Earth who hates avocado.

I'm trying to be more healthy, I really am, but my sweet tooth isn't going anywhere and sometimes healthy snacks just won't do. Also, I generally don't like a lot of 'healthy' foods.
Here are my three favourite vegan snacks for when an apple just ain't cutting it.

Ice Cream
I've always been boring when it comes to ice cream flavour choices. I know there are plenty of dairy free options on the market but 'smooth vanilla' from Swedish Glace is my absolute favourite. It tastes just like the Hagan Daaz dairy version.

Alpro pots
Love these things so much! They come in lots of flavours. Special shout out to the chocolate, really tasty and less than 100 calories! They're a bit like a yoghurt but they aren't kept in the fridge. I love these for breakfast. One of these and a cup of coffee and I'm good to go.

These are so moreish! I'm actually ashamed of how much of this I've gone through. Fudge was something I knew I was going to miss switching from veggie to vegan so I was super happy to find this in Morrisons. It being stocked is so hit and miss that I have actually bought the box on a past occasion so that I would never have to go too long without it.

What are your favourite dairy free snacks?

February Favourites

Another month down calls for another round up of things I've been loving.

Reading πŸ‘“
The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware.
Granted I'm only on book 5/17 but this has been my favourite of my reading challenge so far! It's been a long time since I read a book in two days but I just couldn't put this down. I never saw the ending coming!

Watching πŸ“Ί

CSI. I don't know how it takes me so long to get around to some shows but I've recently started on CSI. Naturally I started on the original as well as the Miami and New York versions. Annoyingly Sky insists on airing them in the wrong order so I've had to dedicate a whole section of my planner to keeping track of which episodes I've seen. The original series remains my favourite and I'm more than a little bit obsessed with Gil Grissom.

Beauty πŸ’„ πŸ’…
Elf palette.
As somebody lusting over the Nars blush palettes but not willing to pay their price this version from ELF is perfect. Not only do you get four shades in one palette but they're all different shades/colours so they can be used for pretty much any look you're going for. At only £7.50 this is an absolute bargain!

Beauty sponges.
I have a serious love hate relationship with beauty sponges, in that I've always hated them. I have come to the realisation that a damp beauty sponge is the best applicator for my Lock It Foundation, though. It's the heaviest foundation I own so I guess the sponge helps with the blending.

Listening πŸŽΆ
I've pretty much had five songs on a constant loop this month.
All Time Low - Dirty Laundry
Selena Gomez - It Ain't Me
Lana Del Rey - Love
Billy Joel - Tell Her About It
Lady Gaga - Million Reasons
I'm doing that thing where I'm listening to them on repeat until I end up hating them.

Loving ♡
My new layout. I bought a layout from Pipdig a couple of weeks ago and it couldn't have been more simple to install. I'm still playing around with some bits but I'm glad I finally took the plunge and I'd definitely recommend them if you're looking to upgrade.

What music have you got on loop at the minute?

Freedom Pro Blush Palette: Bronzed & Baked

This palette is so pretty! Other than a couple of lipsticks, this is the only thing I own from Freedom.

Freedom comes from the same family as Makeup Revolution so it's hardly surprising that their palettes are the same brilliant quality whilst also being super affordable.

There are shades in this palette to suit pretty much everybody, ranging from a subtle pink shade ideal for blush to the deep warm toned contour shade. You could also use 4/5 of them as highlight depending on the tone you prefer.
I can only really get away with the two darkest shades as eyeshadow, I'm way too pale for them to work anywhere else on my face. The rest I mix and match as highlight, contour or blush.

Never fear if you're someone who normally steers away from shimmer, the shades range from the super duper shimmery right down to a subtle, barely there shimmer. Nothing too intense at all but you could always build it up if you prefer to glow.

This palette is only £6!! I'd definitely recommend picking it up if you're looking to add to your collection because that's a complete steal for what is essentially eight products at a super high quality. I'll definitely be heading back to the Freedom stand soon.

Do you own anything from Freedom?

Beauty Wishlist

Any beauty lover knows the wishlist is never ending. Here are the things (a few of the things) hanging around in my online baskets at the moment.

This is one of those products where I feel like the only person in the blogging world who hasn't tried it and as a lover of the higher coverage foundations I definitely need to change that. I'm happy with my Kat Von D one at the moment but when that runs out I'm going to give this one a try.

I would argue that you can never have too many neutral palettes and I really want this one in my collection. There are so many beautiful shades to choose from and whilst I've never tried anything from Sonia, I've only ever heard great things.

As a massive Rosie fan it's surprising that I've never tried any of her makeup line. In reality my wishlist consists of everything but I think this bronzer is definitely my most wanted.

Brittany posted a video just before Christmas wearing this shade and I've been lusting after it ever since. Unfortunately it came after I'd given my Christmas list out so I've waited but I'm going to London soon(ish) and I'm heading straight to the Kat Von D counter.

I love Kathleen. Her youtube channel has been one of my favourites for years so naturally I've got my eye on this palette. I'm not one to use highlight a lot so I can't bring myself to justify the £40 spend.

I don't own anything Charlotte Tilbury and I've decided the best start to my collection would be this makeup bag. I'm obsesed with the design, it's so classic.

Yet again....another brand I haven't tried. I recently got rid of one of my Morphe palettes so I need a replacement. That's how it works, right? Ha! As soon as I finish paying off my holiday I'm going to treat myself to this.

What have you got your eye on at the minute?

Top 5 Winter Shades

Left to right : Laura Gellar, Revlon, Apocalips, MUA, NYX

Let's be honest, I prefer a dark lip any season of the year. Winter shades are the best shades.

*Laura Gellar 'Color enriched anti-aging lipstick' in Cab Crush
I have a love of liquid lipsticks but sometimes it really is nice to go old school. I got this a couple of months ago in a beauty box and I love it. It's pink toned and less dramatic than the others but I definitely wouldn't go kissing anybody with this on as it's pretty glossy. It fades naturally with time and ends up looking like a lip stain rather than going patchy.

Revlon 'Super lustrous lipstick' in Black Cherry
I'm pretty sure this is one of their cult shades. It was all the rage back when I started this blog. This is one of those perfect products that you can pop into your bag to turn your look instantly from day to night.

*Rimmel London 'Apocalips' in Eclipse
I never gave these a second glance in Superdrug/Boots stores but when I saw it in Poundland I decided it was the time to give it a try. I actually really like it. It's a lot more red toned that the others but a lipstick collection is never really complete without every shade of red lip product out there.

*MUA 'Luxe velvet lip lacquer' in Kooky
At only £3 this is an absolute steal. I think this has had a slight package change since I bought this. It's one I've had in my collection for a while. Hopefully the formula is the same though because I love this. It's super pigmented and longlasting.

*NYX 'Soft matte lip cream' in Transylvania
This is one of the oldest lip shades in my collection and in definite need of replacing. It's the deepest shade of the lot. Mine has started getting pretty dry due to old age but it's still just as long lasting with a lipliner. The soft matte lip creams are amazing value and hopefully I'll own them all soon.

What's you favourite winter lip product?

January Favourites

Cue the obligatory 'I can't believe it's already the end of January'. But seriously! Here are a few things I've been loving so far this year.

Reading πŸ‘“
Wild by Cheryl Strayed.
First book of the year down. To be fair, I was off to a good start but it's slowed right down since i finished this book. I loved it! It also totally made me want to go on a soul searching trek (not that I'm crazy enough to ever actually do it).

Watching πŸ“Ί
James Keziah Delaney (Tom Hardy) returns home to London after years traveling the world. He's been gone so long that people, including his own family, thought he must have died on his trip. He's come back to claim his stake on his father's shipping empire, but the family's dirty business tactics affect his life in terrible ways. Oh yeah, and there's black magic involved. (Source

I'm not massively into period dramas but I'm hooked on this. I also think this is the first thing I've actually seen with Tom Hardy in but πŸ˜πŸ˜πŸ˜

Clary Fray is a normal teenager living in Brooklyn with her mother. One day, she discovers that she is descended from a line of Shadowhunters; humans born with angelic blood that fight to protect our world from demons. After her mother is kidnapped, Clary must team up with three Shadowhunters: Jace, Alec and Isabelle and her best friend Simon on a quest to find her mother and recover her past. (Source)

I'm so excited this is back. I love pretty much anything young adult/fantasy. It also helps that the entire cast is crazy beautiful. It's based on 'The Mortal Instruments' book series (which I own but have never read). It's on Netflix if anyone fancies a watch. I'd recommend.

Beauty πŸ’„ πŸ’…
I'm slowly but surely using up a whole range of makeup and a foundation I've finished this month is Revlon 'Colorstay'. It has to be one of the best foundations I've tried. It certainly is one the best I've found in terms of colour match and I'm 100% on the hunt for a cruelty free alternative.
Another favourite which has also already featured on a monthly favourites in my Kryolan 'camouflage creme' palette. My skin has again been a nightmare recently and I love this to cover any redness.

Going  πŸŽ
This month I finally got to see Ramin Karimloo live and it was in my home town of all places. I live on the edge of nowhere so I'm always surprised when quality people show up. I'm 100% in love with his voice. Live shows make my soul so happy and hearing him sing Anthem will probably remain my favourite moment of 2017.

Listening πŸŽΆ
The La La Land soundtrack. Like the vast majority of us I went to see La La Land this month and I've been listening to the soundtrack ever since. It's so magical and worth every bit of hype it's receiving. ★★★★★

Loving ♡ πŸ“”
I was trying to do a no spend January but I've bought a Happy Planner and discovered Etsy planner stickers so that went out of the window. That being said, I'm now stocked up for at least a couple of months so I'm giving no spend February a go.

Everyday Makeup

My everyday face changes a lot. I recently had a sort out of makeup and I've created a box of products I've had a while, or have nearly finished. I really need to actually start using some up before I buy new things.

17 Happy Things

I turned into a massive Debbie downer the back end of 2016. You know those moods you get into that you can't get out of? Well I decided to start writing lists of things that make me happy. Here are my first 17 to mark the start of 2017.

1. Coffee
2. New Girl
3. Bubble Baths. Preferably with a Lush bath bomb.

2016 Beauty Favourites

L'Oreal Infallible foundation.
I feel like I haven't stopped talking about this foundation this year but I think that just goes to show how impressed with it I am. I like the regular version but I love the matte version. It's got brilliant coverage.

KVD - Lolita.
2016 was the year the liquid lipstick blew up. If I had to throw out all other lip products I think I'd be pretty happy just keeping hold of Lolita by Kat Von D. It's a warm nude that looks natural enough to be worn day to day. I actually love it, it lasts for hours and fades naturally.

Barry M Gelly nails.
Barry M really know how to do nail polishes. They have a few different ranges but my absolute favourite has to be the gellys, the dark ones to be even more specific. Black Forest and Black Current are on current rotation. I just don't feel myself without a black/almost black nail. I can get about 5 days before they start chipping and I work with my hands so that's saying a lot.

Urban Decay - Perversion.
I'm obsessed with the fat brush on this because it means you get loads of volume. It is on the thicker side consistency wise but I think this helps ensure it is super duper black. I will say that on the bottom lashes this flakes (on me) throughout the day but it's nothing drastic.

New Look Contour Kits.
It takes me so long to get through contour products as I use the lightest hand you could imagine. It's taking me so long to get through this that they've actually rebranded since I bought it. I'm really hoping that it's just as amazing when it actually comes time for me to repurchase it as the shade is perfect for me and the consistency is perfect for blending. Honestly I only really use the contour shade on the left of this palette but I've very nearly hit pan.

What were you loving through 2016?
