August Favourites

I've got eight favourites for the month of August including beauty, music, social media and a really random one at the end.

1) I watched a lot of review and swatch videos before buying a NYX matte lip cream because I don't want to just buy things for hypes sake. I went with Antwerp for my first cream and I'm obsessed with everything about it. I've been wearing it everyday I'm not working. It is super easy to apply, only needs one coat and lasts for so long.

2) I bite my lips a lot so they generally aren't in the best state. This month I've been loving the Blistex 'orange mango blast' so keep them (somewhat) protected from the cold.

3) I've started applying my concealer with a brush and I can't even tell you the difference it's made. The brush I use is an angled eyeshadow brush as it was the only brush I had without a use but it works just as good as any other. I find my concealer applies less patchy and lasts a lot longer that it used to.

4) 'Haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate' but I love Taylor Swift's new song and I can't wait for her new album. It was not what I was expecting and I definitely prefer Taylor's old sound but I still absolutely love the track and her ability to write a catchy tune hasn't gone anywhere.

5) On the subject of music, how amazing is Collabro's album??
I can't tell you how many times I had their audition with 'Stars' on replay. They're voices are brilliant, I've got a total soft spot for Jamie and I love that they've stuck to their musical theatre roots with the album.

6) MY go to scent of the month has been 'Bejewelled' by Vera Wang. I think the bottle is beautiful and very girly. Just look at how pretty it is :)

7) This month I've got an Instagram of the month. I'm obsessed with Louise Roe's page. She is such a fashion icon, gorgeous lady and just seems like a genuinely lovely person. If you love fashion definitely make sure you check out her page.

8) My final favourite is work related. After 9 months of being a 'Christmas temp' I finally got my permanent contract this month!! (yaayy) I was the only one kept on out of ten(ish) temps after the Christmas season but, up until now, I'd just been on a rolling contract so it's nice having that job security. I finally feel like an official part of the team.

What have you guys been loving this month? Any recommendations?

August haul

My sister is obsessed with Little Mix and a while ago I happened to be there when she had a video on and I fell in love with a top Leigh-Anne (I think) was wearing. My town isn't too big but I didn't spot it anywhere and then out of the blue a couple of weeks ago it turned up on my Topshop sale rail. The only one, in my size. Totally meant to be! It was down from £34-£18 so it was even better.

I've been intrigued by 'green' lipsticks for a while now. I don't often walk past a Barry M display without testing theirs out on the back of my hand but I'd never actually tried one til now. I got mine off eBay and I'm not going to lie, it was the packaging which got me.

I haven't bought a book in so long. I think the last physical book I actually bought was The Commitments which was the day of the 1D premiere last year, so actually 12 months ago.

I'm obsessed with the 90's. I wish we could all live there forever. I had one of the 'tattoo' chokers when I was 8(ish) and impulsively bought one this month. If I'd have known I'd want to still wear one 15 years later then I'm sure I'd have just kept the one I had.

A few weeks ago I was walking past the makeup aisle and quickly tested a liquid green eyeliner on my hand and carried on walking. Since that moment, I got it in my mind that I had to have it but spent my time searching online for the wrong brand. I finally have it though. The L'oreal super slim liquid liner in green is a gorgeous colour and not too drastic. I'm looking forward to wearing this.

I've bought four lip items. I bought two NYX soft matte lips creams in Prague and Transylvania. I've become a 'go hard or go home' girl in terms of lip colour so these two are perfect. I bought one of the Manhattan soft mat lipcreams in 56k which is a gorgeous 'English rose' pink and Kooky from the MUA Velvet lip lacquer range which is a deep purple.

I've wanted triangle earrings for a while but could never find nice ones. I still haven't managed to find nice ones but I did impulsively buy a pair.

I had my eye on a top from Wallis for ages but wanted to wait for the sale to justify spending money on it. Thankfully when the sales rolled around they had my size.

I immediately fell in love with a dress at work but the shape didn't do me any favours at all. Thankfully, they also have a top version which I just had to grab.

I bought Iron Man shampoo. I don't feel this needs explaining further than it is in the shape of Iron Man's mask. I regret nothing.

Everybody keeps harping on about how the Benefit They're Real mascara is the best thing ever so when I saw this set I decided it was worth the money. You get a full size mascara and a travel size liner which, according to the box, retails for £24.

I have SO much hair which means washing it is a real chore. I only tend to wash my hair every 5-8 days because it doesn't really need more than that. Plus, I have to take breaks when I'm blow drying it because my arm starts aching haha! Dry shampoo is my saviour for those times when I perhaps leave it a day too long but I hate how expensive it is. How is it more expensive than actual shampoo and conditioner??? It isn't often I get the same dry shampoo twice in a row because I just buy the cheapest - this month that happened to be Herbal Essences.

Fashion Flashback Friday - Golden Globes 2014

I'm obsessed with award season. I watch live feeds of red carpet arrivals on the edge of my seat waiting to see who is wearing what.
The Golden Globes 2014 was no exception. I posted my favourite three on instagram and thought I'd expand it to a blog post.

L-R: Amy Adams, Zooey Deschanel, Amber Heard

These three looks are completely different.

Amy Adams in Valentino. I personally think Amy was the star of the 2014 red carpets. She was on form all season. I love this how simple this dress is and yet 100% makes a statement. I also love that she didn't let the carpet scare her away from wearing red. The amount (or lack thereof) of material on the top is risky but she has the perfect figure to pull it off and looks ridiculously confident and glamorous whilst doing so.

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta. I don't think Zooey could have dressed more for her personality than she did here. I totally think Jess would rock this in New Girl as well. She looks like a princess and the two piece effect is bang on trend.

Amber Heard in Atelier Versace. The colour of Amber's dress could easily have made me hate this dress if it weren't for the material that it's in. The satin makes the colour magnificent instead of dull.

15 Fashion Questions

I was on google searching for tags to do on here and I found this fashion one on www.lovelaceglitter.com and thought I'd give it a go.

1. What is your favourite style to wear.
I like casual grunge but nothing too extreme. That being said, my style is seriously varied. I can go from Taylor Momsen one day to Taylor Swift the next.

2. Who is your fashion role model?
I like Daisy Lowe, Alexa Chung et al.

 3. What do you always have on?
On days when I'm not working I always wear large gold hoops.
Whenever I'm in my house, it'll be pyjamas. I'm not a fan of getting dressed if I absolutely don't have to.

4. What are your favourite jeans?
I find it really hard finding jeans to fit me because I'm a 34" leg and not many stores stock my length. My current favourite pair are from the Tesco Sale and are black skinny jeans with a hole on one knee and a distressed pattern on the other leg.

5. What are you favourite sunglasses?
Currently, that would be these. I think they were from New Look last year are were only around £5.

6. What are your favourite shoes?
My favourite shoes are lace up boots from New Look. They're actually falling apart but I can't bear to part with them because they are the comfiest things ever and they aren't in stock any more :'(

7. Who influenced you to write about fashion?
My blog isn't going to be totally fashion based, it's just going to be about my favourite things, maybe an extension of my tumblr and new youtube channel. I absolutely love fashion so it just makes sense that I include that. I do absolutely love fashion magazines and tv shows though. #bringbackbintm

8. What is your favourite store?
I love Debenhams because they have H! by Henry Holland and I'm obsessed. I really love Warehouse but I don't get too much from there because I think it's a bit pricey. I also love New Look and Primark when I'm on more of a budget but I'm definitely more of an online shopper.

9. Who is your favourite fashion person on youtube?
I don't really follow any channels which are 100% fashion but my favourite person on youtube at the moment is MsRosieBea. I find I can relate to her a lot because of the ginger thing.

10. What is your favourite fabric?
Denim? I'm not sure I have one.

11. Who is your favourite model?
Argh! I have three to match my ever changing style. Daisy Lowe, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Behati Prinsloo.

12. If you had $5000 to spend on any one item, what would it be?
I don't know the conversion rate but I wouldn't near anywhere near that. It would be between two House of Holland jackets.
 or

13. Heels or flats?
I wish I could be one of the Victoria Beckhams of the world and walk effortlessly in heels but I can't get the hang of them - Bambi is an understatement. Luckily, I'm fairly tall so I don't mind flats.

14. What purse do you currently use?
In English terms, my current purse is lime green (looks more yellow to me) and was £16 from Topshop.

15. Is fashion in your blood or your jeans?
I think it must be in my blood because Vogue is my bible. My family aren't the most fashion conscious people in the world but I'm obsessed.

Best Dressed - Met Gala 2013

This was inspired by a post on my instagram.

The Met Gala is always a who's who of the fashion world.
Fashion is so fickle and my best dressed one year can easily be my worst dressed the next.

My eye in 2013 was drawn towards the monochrome colours.

L-R: Sienna Miller, Nina Dobrev, Cara Delevingne, Rita Ora

Sienna Miller in Burberry. I love the simplicity of the dress and the fact that she's used the accessories and jacket to toughen the look up. It's a good example of how accessories can change a look.

Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier. I love that she didn't go stereotypical with a dress and mixed leather and lace. I certainly wasn't expecting this look from her. If you're going to take a risk with fashion then the Met Gala is certainly the best place to do it.

Cara Delevingne in Burberry. I love how similar Sienna's and Cara's looks are and yet they are completely different at the same time. Cara is wearing so much material and her jewellery is really simple and yet, with the plunging V and smokey eye, she manages to toughen the look up.

Rita Ora in Thakoon. Rita's dress has a thigh high split, cut out hip and shows more than a little side boob and yet, with her trademark red lip and 'Marilyn' hair, she still manages to look classy. I think she really suits white and the stripes give the dress an edge.

What were your favourite looks from the 2013 Gala?

The British Tag

I saw this tag on InTheFrow and decided I had to do it.

1. How many cups of tea do you have a day? + How many sugars?

I have days where I don't drink tea and then other days I'll make two cups at a time. When I'm drinking regular tea I don't take sugar or milk and tend to just leave the bag in (weird, I know).
I drink a lot of fruit teas but I don't think that's necessarily a British thing. This is my current favourite.

2. Favourite part of your roast
I don't eat roasts a lot but I'd probably say mash was my favourite part.

3. Favourite dunking biscuit
Custard creams are just the best.

4. Favourite quintessentially British pastime?
Haha. I googled ideas for this one and came up with my favourite....complaining. I'm such a moaner. I try not to be in a depressing, annoying to be around, kind of way but I do love a good moan.

5. Favourite word?
I use 'same' ALL the time and it's gotten to the point where I don't even think I'm using it ironically.
My favourite word is probably 'wazzock' even though I don't actually say it much.

6. Cockney rhyme slang?
I don't know a lot. I know 'apples and pears' (stairs), 'baker's dozen' (cousin), 'dog and bone' (phone) and a few others. The only one I think I actually use is 'adam and eve' (believe). I do say 'would/do you adam and eve it?' quite a bit.

7. Favourite sweet
Veggie Percy Pigs from M&S.

8. What would your pub be called?
Something about a crown. Maybe just The Crown or The Queen's Crown.

9. No.1 British person
The Queen. Or Julie Andrews.

10. Favourite shop / restaurant
I don't really have a favourite shop or restaurant but I do have a favourite place to eat so I'm changing this question. My favourite place to eat is a café called 'Bosun's Locker' which is right next to the sea on the edge of my town. It's always the place I choose to go for my birthday.

11. What british song pops into your head?
Bohemian Rhapsody and Hey Jude came straight to my mind then.

12. Marmite.
Never tried it but I'd probably guess I'm a hater.

Other than my obsession with the Queen and love of the band Queen, I don't necessarily think my answers make me sound British at all. What do you guys think?

Makeup of the day (19/08/14)

Foundation - I've mixed Dainty Doll in Medium with Rimmel 'Stay Matte' in 103 True Ivory.
Concealer - Collection 'Lasting Perfection' in 1 Fair.
Contour - Sleek Contour Kit in Light.
Eyebrows -  Nubuck from the 'Au Naturel 601' Sleek eyeshadow palette.
Eyeshadow - 'Cappuccino' on the lid and 'Bark' through the crease from the same palette.
Eyeliner - Benefit's 'They're Real' push up liner.
Mascara - Bourjois 'Liner Effect' mascara
Lips - MUA Velvet lip lacquer in Kooky.

I'm also wearing my trustee Katy Perry for eylure lashes in 'Oh, Honey'

I'm going for a family meal this evening and myself and my sister have rebelled against the casual dress code so I'm wearing more makeup that I normally would. I'm not usually one for doing the eyes and the lips but I think my smoky eye is subtle enough to get away with a brighter lip.
What do you guys think?

Favourite Eyeliner

I think the best eyeliner I've ever tried is the Master Kajal Khôl Liner' from Maybelline. I went for the classic black which is accurately names 'pitch black' as it is super dramatic.

There are two reasons for my complete love of this product. The first is that it is super soft and literally glides across the skin. The second is that it smudges like a dream. I'm not afraid to rock the 'haven't slept in a week' look and this is the perfect product for that. Alexa Chung's tips on liner include

"Line the inside of your eyes with black pencil then blink really hard a few times in a row. Clean away the excess liner under the eye but keep enough so it looks as though you've lived in it for a day."
If that's the look you're going for then this is the perfect eyeliner for you.

The only negative of this product, for me, is the packaging. I dropped mine not long after purchasing and it snapped in half leaving the end with the product in wedged into the lid. It took me ages to get it out.
Other than this tiny issue, this is 100% my favourite eyeliner.

What is your favourite?

July favourites

I've got seven favourites for the month of July. Four are beauty related and the other three are random.

1) My first favourite of the month of July is a glimmerstick eyebrow pencil from Avon which I bought last year and have recently gone back to. Mine's in the blonde shade but I definitely think it would be too dark for people with really fair hair. The reason I think this works so well for me is because the colour is definitely not a solid shade of brown. I find there are gingery(?) tones so it doesn't contrast too much with my hair. This pencil is also really easy to blend so it isn't too obvious that the brows are drawn in.

2) My second favourite is a product I'm having a love/hate relationship with. It's the Benefit 'They're real' push up liner. Working in a department store which stocks Benefit, I've been subjected to the claims that it doesn't 'smudge, budge or dry out' over the speaker system A LOT.
I watched a handful of youtube video reviews before handing over £18.50 for an eyeliner and it seemed like this would be worth the hype. I don't know whether I just have abnormally oily eyelids but I find that this smudges and budges on me. What's left of it also comes off easily with just a face wipe at the end of the day.
You'd be forgiven for being confused as to why it's in my favourites if you've read this far and the simple reason is the shape of the applicator. This liner has made me much more confident in wearing a cat eye and it's quickly become one of my favourite looks.

3) My third beauty favourite is hair oil. When the hair oil craze first blew up a few years ago I was really loving the Vo5 Argan Oil but I slowly fazed that out of my routine.
I've recently started using the 'Pantene Pro-v Repair&Protect dry Oil with Vit-E' and it's completely changed my hair routine. I find my hair dries a lot quicker (which I could not be happier about) and lasts longer between washes.

4) My fourth favourite is also for hair but it's the 'Babyliss 2286u Waving Wand'. I think I saw Fleur use a wand in a tutorial last year and decided I had to have one but it's been one of those things that I put away for a few months and then rediscover. I've recently been growing my hair out and so I'm not washing it as often as I probably should and I always find curly hair to last longer between washes than straight hair. I've tried a few wands but I love the even curls that this one gives and I also find that the curls last a lot longer that they do with other wands.
5) My first non beauty favourite of the month is my Filofax. I've got the personal size Metropol in black and, although I don't have much of a life to organise, I use it loads. I use it to track my shifts at work, hole myself accountable for how often (or not) I'm going to the gym and, more recently, plan and schedule blog posts.

6) My next favourite is Christina Perri. I was listening to one of her songs on Spotify in the background a few weeks ago and just let it run through her entire album 'head or heart' and I can't count the amount of times I've had it on since. Her voice is absolutely beautiful and I'm definitely now a legit fan.

7) My final favourite is the coverage of Gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games. I literally left my house once over the five days they were on because of serious FOMO (fear of missing out) although I was cheating and being Team England,Scotland, Wales AND Northern Ireland (Home Nations so that's ok, right?) Gymnastics is my favourite sport in the entire world and I don't think I'd be exaggerating in saying I'm obsessed. So thanks BBC for all the coverage :)
