Skincare that doesn't work for me....

My skin really is a nightmare. After writing a few skincare drafts which all sounded negative I realised that it wasn't fair to portray products negatively when the truth is that my skin probably didn't want to give them a chance. So, in fairness to the products and in trying to educate myself, I'm going to start documenting products that I've tried which don't work for me on my quest for clear skin.

Witch Naturally Clear Blemish Stick

This does say on the tube to 'use with caution on sensitive skin' but I didn't actually read that before use. I'd seen so many rave reviews that I just grabbed it when I saw it on offer in Tesco.
I don't even think I lasted a week using this product before I realised I needed to stop. This made the area around my spots really painful, I could barely touch my chin. After stopping using this, my skin became really dry and flaky which meant that any makeup I applied, which I needed to cover problem skin, looked even more appalling that usual. It wasn't a good time for my poor troubled skin.

Nuxe Paris 24hr Soothing and Rehydrating Fresh Mask
(This was originally it's own post which is why it's so long)
Let me preface this by saying that I only actually used this product three days (two more than I should have done)

I'm nearing mid-twenties and becoming increasingly aware that I'm actually a grown up now and skincare is something I need to be spending more time focusing on.
The only face masks I'd tried are from varying lines of The Body Shop but hadn't managed to find one to work with my skin so I immediately dived into testing mode when this arrived in a monthly subscription box.
I'm afraid to say, it isn't good news.
In fact, there's no pros for me on this product. Obviously, I'm not saying this is a bad product, it just has absolutely no positive impact on me.
Despite changing a few different aspects of my skin routine at the same time, i'm fairly certain that this product was what has been causing my mass breakout.

I should have known better than to get my hopes up regarding this mask, there were obvious red flags.

The first issue I have is that it is for 'all skin types'. That should have made me pass the product straight onto somebody else but no, I remained hopeful.

The second issue I have is the smell. It smells so strongly that it was clearly going to affect me. I can't pinpoint the exact smell but the tube says this mask 'is enriched with almond and orange white flowers'. Not a fan!

The third issue I have and the one that makes me certain this is the nemesis of my skin is that, once applied, it makes my face burn. Like, I literally feel like my cheeks are on fire. A direct quote from the box -
intensely soothes the skin for an immediate 'SOS rescue' effect on skin discomfort (stinging, redness, sensations of heat...)
For me, personally, this mask caused all of the things is specifically mentions it preventing.
Stupidly, after suffering the burning sensation the first day, I tried this for a couple more days. I wanted to give it a fair trial. If you suffer any adverse reactions to products then make sure you stop using them immediately. It was insane of me to continue, especially when it's being used so close to my eyes.

If Nuxe have a sensitive skin line then I would be more than willing to give that a try but I'll be staying away from things suitable for 'all skin types' in future.

The Body Shop Tea Tree Face Mask
I spent a while searching The Body Shop website for the perfect face mask and settled on this one for 'soothing and calming blemish prone skin'.
I love the cooling, tingling feeling this causes when it's applied and it smells really clean and fresh.
This dried almost instantly on my face and (you guessed it) actually caused breakouts. I personally didn't find this soothed or calmed at all. At least I can cross the 'Tea Tree' line off my list.

Do you have recommendations for (almost ridiculously) sensitive skin?

MY THOUGHTS: Maybelline Moisture Extreme in Royal Red

A girl can never have too many red lipsticks.

I can't rave enough about this one. I love it!

I was told when I was younger that redheads should avoid red lipstick (and just red in general). That stuck with me for years. Then, one day, I tried it and bloody loved it! Moral of the story, don't let other people tell you what suits you. Part of the fun is working that out for yourself.

The formula is really creamy - it's like a hybrid of a lipstick and a lipbalm. This is where the 'moisture extreme' comes in and is definitely a title that this product lives up to, it isn't at all drying.
I would recommend using a liner underneath this product as it is super soft and I sometimes find it sliding a little bit. I would also say that I do find myself having to reapply a couple of times throughout the day but that isn't a major issue for me.

Another plus to this lipstick is that it smells like melon, which isn't something I've come across in a lip product before, but is something that I definitely welcome.

I don't know whether this is just me but I find that my teeth look a lot whiter with this on. I can't stop smiling.
I can't put my finger on the actual colour. It's a definite fire engine red but sometimes I feel it leans more orange and sometimes I get blue undertones. Try it for yourself and let me know what you think.

I read somewhere that this product has been discontinued (boo!) but you can still get hold of it on sites such as eBay and I would definitely recommend this to any lipstick lover.

What are your favourite red lipsticks?

My Favourite Brow Products

I know I'm not alone when I say that brows are one of the most important parts of my face routine everyday. Brows can seriously change the way your face looks and help make your eyes stand out in the process. But as a ginge, my brows are naturally very blonde. Not ideal! I would be lost without these four products....

30 day lash and brow tint

I would never do this on my lashes because I'm too clumsy to personally be using chemicals that close to my eyes but tinting the brows makes my makeup routine much simpler. The only colours they do are 'dark brown' and 'black and I have been known to leave this on too long and end up like Juno in Wild Child (whoops) but if I'm paying attention this helps to give my brows a more natural look and base for the next products.

Avon Glimmerstick

This has a super soft consistency; almost waxy. This means it glides on, is easily smudged away if mistakes are made and looks really natural.

Model Co More Brows
This lasts forever. I love the ashy tones to this particular colour which mean it isn't too harsh and the tiny brush is amazing for getting the outer points of the brows.

Maybelline Brow Drama
Lots of people moan about the shape of this brush but I think it's really easy to work with. The colour is a lot more intense than the 'Model co' colour which creates a harsher brow. If you're not in the strong brow game then this probably wouldn't be the product for you.

What products would you recommend for brows?
I'm currently debating whether or not to get the Mac Veluxe Brow Liner in 'Redhead'. Has anyone tried it?

MY THOUGHTS: TRESemme 2805U Volume Hair Curling Tong

I'm not going to lie, I've totally stolen this off my sister. She never uses it, it was feeling abandoned!

I love that the barrel is pink because I don't store these in a box so it makes it easy to spot in my appliance drawer.

I probably end up with an average of 20 curls as I find this holds best with smaller sections of hair. That being said, even on the highest heat (there are three settings), these curls don't last all day.
When using my Babyliss tong, I can usually get three days out of the curls. I, personally, don't get anywhere near that long with this. I find my hair starts dropping throughout the day no matter how much hairspray I pile on.
Also, this is pointless to do before bed as the curls will be non-existent the next morning.

This has a 32mm barrel and the large curl you get drops almost instantly to create natural looking waves.
This is perfect if you are going to an event that isn't necessarily to going to last all day, maybe an awards show or a concert.

Has anybody had a different experience with this product?

15 Festive Favourites

I stole this off a girl I follow on Tumblr ;)

1. Favourite festive food?

I don't know if these count but they're only out at Christmas so I'm going with it, Mr Kipling's Frosted Fancies. I eat those things by the box. My seasonal weight gain is all down to Mr Kipling and those yummy pieces of heaven.

2. Favourite reindeer?
Donner. All the other names are really random and then there's good ol' Donner.

3. Favourite day from '12 days of Christmas'?
5 Gold Rings because I like the way it's exaggerated and also, I'm a girl who loves jewellery.

4. Favourite Christmas song?

There's one about grandma being run over by a reindeer which I absolutely love. If we're sticking to chart ones then Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)

5. Favourite Christmas present?
A few years ago a family friend took me and my sister to Disneyland Paris for the few days before Christmas and it was immense!

6. Favourite Christmas film?
Jingle All The Way

7. Favourite Christmas cracker toy?
Not a massive fan of toys, just a simple crown hat does me.

8. Favourite cracker joke?
I can't think off the top of my head but the worse, the better when it comes to Christmas.

9. Favourite Christmas decoration?
Tinsel. I just bloody love tinsel.

10. Favourite candle scent?

My favourite scent in life is Glade 'spiced apple and cinnamon'.

11. Favourite Christmas tv advert?
I like the Argos aliens who don't know how to work anything. Not sure if they're around this year.
I loved the Rosie one for M+S last year as well.

12. Favourite Christmas tradition?
I don't really have any traditions. The only consistent thing we do every year is go to my grandparents house at 11ish and stay until just before Doctor Who (not important any more). I tried to make going to the park to feed the ducks a tradition but it didn't really catch on. Oh and me and my sister have started tracking Santa through Christmas Eve which is fun but again not really a tradition.

13. Favourite place to spend christmas?
My grandparents house because they have all the foods ;)

14. Favourite Christmas fact?
I had to google this and I don't know if it's actually a 'fact' but I like it...
Santa Claus is based on a real person, St. Nikolas of Myra (also known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker, Bishop Saint Nicholas of Smyrna, and Nikolaos of Bari), who lived during the fourth century. Born in Patara (in modern-day Turkey), he is the world’s most popular non-Biblical saint, and artists have portrayed him more often than any other saint except Mary. He is the patron saint of banking, pawnbroking, pirating, butchery, sailing, thievery, orphans, royalty, and New York City
15. Favourite Snowman accessory?
Scarf.

Please join in on the festive fun and link me to your answers.

My Top 5: Perfumes

I definitely have a distinct taste when it comes to perfumes and that is woody/musky scents so I thought this would be the perfect time of year to share my ultimate top 5 perfumes. These are staples in my collection and have been for some years now. I've gone through numerous bottles of each. There isn't a whole lot I can say about why they are my faves other than 'they smell nice' but here goes.
I've got one anomaly to the bunch and that's the one I shall start with....

1) Heiress by Paris Hilton *pauses for judgement*
Top Notes: Passion fruit, Orange, Peach Granita, Champagne Mimosa
Base Notes: Violet leaf, Vetiver, Tonka, Blonde Woods
Based on the base notes this doesnt seem out of place in my top five but for me this perfume doesn't get particularly musky no matter how long you wear it for. I find this remains fairly fruity smelling.

2) Chanel No.5
Top Notes: Ylang-Ylang, Neroli, Aldehydes
Base Notes: Sandalwood, Vetiver
I used to steal my mum's about 10 years ago and it's been my absolute favourite ever since. It smells really sophisticated and expensive to me. There's a reason this is a cult classic. It's the ultimate scent.
PS. I'm absolutely obsessed with the new Gisele advert <3

3) Stella by Stella McCartney
Top Notes: Mandarin, Rose, Peony
Base Notes: Woody ambers
This is generally my go to scent for a night out. I get lots of compliments from girls on this one. I find this settles to the base notes really quickly and lasts for ages!

4) Parisienne by Yves Saint Laurent
Top Notes: Cranberry, Blackberry
Base Notes: Patchouli, Vetiver, Musk, Sandalwood
This is generally my go to scent for daytime. I get more compliments from guys on this one. I don't find the top notes fully disappear with this one so it remains fairly fruity but it it still a very autumnal scent.

5) Red Door by Elizabeth Arden
Top Notes: Orange blossom, Plum, Peach, Anise
Base Notes: Heliotrope, Sandal, Cedar, Musk, Amber, Benzoin
This scent reminds me of East End ladies like Peggy Mitchell. Let me explain.....I'm obsessed with the ones who get up two hours early every morning to do a full face of makeup and go to the supermarket dressed to the nines and who only ever take taxis. They smell like Red Door to me.

Do you have any musky favourites?

Babyliss Wave Envy Hair Styler

I could not be more obsessed with this thing at the moment.

I used to wash my hair before bed and sleep with about a dozen plaits in to get this effect. The problem with that is that most of the time my hair would still be damp when I woke up. Thick hair curses! Thanks to this contraption, I don't have to do that anymore. Granted, this does take twice as long to do as it would to straighten or curl my hair but it takes a hell of a lot less time than it did to tightly plait all of my hair.

There are three heat settings but as with all hair appliances, I always go straight for the hottest. My hair is like a moody teenager so anything less than that won't work.

This probably takes about half an hour to complete all of my hair but the results last for days. Plus, I have a lot of hair. If you have a normal amount, it will take less time.

Crimping my hair may just have overtaken my love of curls!

I'd definitely recommend trying this out if you haven't.

The Quiet Place Project

The Quiet Place Project is something I think everybody needs to be aware of. It is a wesbite/app which allows you to escape from the stresses of life for as little as 90 seconds.
My mental state is something I struggle with on a regular basis and I find the music (especially) helpful. It allows me to switch my brain off and focus on my breathing.
If you ever feel like things are getting on top of you or you just need a timeout then I recommend checking this place out.

October Favourites

There haven't been a whole lot of products that I've been crazy about this month.  I struggled to make this list up to 10.....

1) Plush Therapy Mild Dermabrasion Face and Body Scrub
For some reason, whilst the rest of my face is unseasonably oily, my nose is still super dry. I apply this at the same time as my moisturiser in the morning to prevent my foundation caking. The beads are the perfect size for the face but I can't imagine it would be very effective on the body.

2) Nails Inc Matte Top Coat in Westminster
Love it! I'm a matte junkie so this was a dream product for me. I've had it partnered with a navy L'Oreal polish for the majority of the month and I'm obsessed.

3) Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain
Who knew someone as pale as me could get even paler in the colder months? This is the perfect shade for me when I haven't tanned and has good lasting power.

4) NYX Lip Liner in Nude Pink
Obsessed! I wear this all over my lips with a balm on top  for work. It's a 'your lips but better colour'. My lips don't naturally have much pigmentation but I can pull this off as a super natural look and it lasts really well as well. I get close to the 4 hour mark.

5) Natural Collection Cream Blusher in Naked Glow
This is a blusher that I bought ages ago and wasn't blown away by but I've recently been giving it another go and I'm seriously impressed by the staying power. They last forever!

6) Maybelline Brow Drama in Medium Brown
My brows are naturally super blonde and one of them will not dye beyond the arch which is a royal pain in the backside so I desperately need for my brow products to last all day. This stuff is long-lasting and really natural looking.

7) Cocoa Brown 1 Hour Tan Mousse
I've tried loads of tanning products in the past but I've always been disappointed....until now! To look less corpse-like I leave it on for 1 hour and to look like I've been in actual sun I leave it on for 2. This doesn't even streak on a novice like myself.

8) Costa 'Hot Spiced Apple'
If any of you follow me on twitter you may have seen my new obsession. I'm averaging about 5 of these a week. It's essentially a hot apple juice with cinnamon and fig but it smells like my favourite Glade candle. I'm going to be heartbroken when the seasons change and they stop doing them!

9) Taylor Swift - Blank Space
Swiftie for life but I'm not going to lie, this new album isn't my favourite. I think most of the songs are going to be growers for me. However, I've had Blank Space on repeat almost constantly since I first heard it. I absolutely love it! Definitely my favourite song on 1989.

10) Speed The Plow
More specifically Lindsay Lohan in Speed The Plow. She is one of my absolute favourite famous' so I booked a spontaneous overnight trip (two days in advance) at the beginning of the month and have been on cloud nine (and seriously skint) ever since. I'm not just saying this because I could fangirl about her all day but she was seriously amazing.

MY THOUGHTS: Cattier Paris Argile Rose Clay Mask (sensitive skin)

Contains pink clay and aloe vera. A mild and purifying treatment specially suited for sensitive skin. This mask clarifies the skin and provides it with important nutrients.

I've never found a face mask that I thought was worth bothering with. My usual experience is that they just don't live up to the claims. Until now. I really enjoyed using this mask.

This product dried super quickly when on the skin. I applied it fairly liberally so I had serious struggles trying to talk with it on (probably not a bad thing for my family).

I found it easiest filling the sink with medium/hot water and using cotton pads in a circular motion to remove.

Something I'm currently using is causing me breakouts and I've currently got spots, blemishes and some scarring. This mask seems to be doing a brilliant job at calming any redness, taking any inflammation from the skin.
One thing I'm not the biggest fan of is the smell but I'm willing to put up with it for up to half an hour a week for these results.

I've obviously only used it for the length of the samples. I got 5 masks out of the two sachets so I'm not the biggest expert but
I'll definitely be purchasing the full size and giving a longer trial for only £4.25!

Have any of you tried this product? Thoughts?

MY THOUGHTS: Maybelline Super Stay 24 Colour in 542 Cherry Pie

As a starting point, it might be worth noting that I don't actually use the balm end of this product. I use the colour/gloss end by itself.
This colour is a true fire engine red.

Sleek Eyeshadow Palette - Ultra Matte V2

I received this palette in a beauty subscription box a while ago and immediately gave it to my sister as I wasn't blown away by the colours. However, I recently borrowed it to do a halloween look and thought I'd write a super quick post about it.

MY THOUGHTS: Nivea Sensitive 3 in 1 Micellar Cleansing Water (Sensitive Skin)

Up until I received this in my September Glossybox, I was a complete virgin when it came to these waters. Over the past year or two I'd obviously heard the world, her dog and their groomer talking about (mainly) the Bioderma version but I'm always super cautious about adding new things to my face routine due to overly sensitive skin. Anything new makes me break out like crazy. Usually. I figured with it specifying it was for sensitive skin that the least I could do was trial it.

MY THOUGHTS: Seventeen 'Miracle Matte' skin primer

Seventeen has a huge section in my Boots but I tend to stick to familiar brands (something I'm trying to get out of the habit of doing) but I decided it was time to try a primer. I'd just always accepted that my makeup was going to get crappier looking as the day went on. Why? I wish I'd listened to all the bloggers and vloggers earlier.

The Autumn Tag 2014

1. Favourite thing about Autumn?
I made a whole blog post dedicated to my love of Autumn 'Oh Autumn, How I Love Thee' so I'll just let you all go and look at my list :)

2. Favourite drink
I've made a new drink discovery this year. Not i the sense that it was secret, I just didn;t know it existed. The 'Hot Spiced Apple' from Costa is Autumn in a cup. I've lost count of how many I've already had this year and they've only been out a few weeks. I'd definitely recommend trying it if you haven't yet.

3. Favourite scent/candle
My favourite candle is and always has been the Glade 'spiced apple and cinnamon' (the original, they seem to have changed it this year and I'm not a fan) but I'm currently cheating on that one with a Yankee Candle 'Christmas Memories'. I'm not fussy about seasonal scents, I literally burn my Glade ones all year.

4. Best lipstick?
I'm usually a deep red kind of girl in the autumn but this year I seem to have developed an obsession with purples. This one is the MUA Luxe Velvet lip lacquer in Kooky.

5. Go to moisturiser?
Anothew new addition for this year. My favourite moisturiser is the Vaseline Spray and Go. I've never used another which comes anywhere close to being as effective as this one.

6. Go to colours for the eyes?
I'm a fan of a brown smoky eye all year around but in Autumn it's nice to be able to go a little darker with the tones.

7. Favourite music or band/singer to listen to?
I don't particularly have a band/ singer that makes my feel Autumnal. I've just posted my iTunes  'Top 25 Most Played' for the last couple of months.

8. Favourite outfit to wear (i.e. boots & a scarf combo)?
Anything with a polo neck.

9. Autumn treat?
Chocolate apples.

10. Favourite place to be?
In bed. Or at work watching all of the Christmas gifts coming through the tills. Lets face it, It's October and our Christmas displays are already going up. I hate Christmas but I love tinsel, Christmas music and gift sets so working in retail is ideal this time of year.

I tag anyone who wants to do this. Leave me a link to your answers :)

Top 25 most played (August-October)

Music is such a big part of my day. I decided that I wanted to do a music feature of some sort on this blog and the best idea I could come up with was to feature my top 25 played every 2/3 months. That way we all get to see what I'm actually loving without me sitting trying to wrack my brain and just listing songs/artists off.
I reset my itunes play count towards the end of August, so the time has come to see what I've been loving.

There may be songs you haven't heard which my play count can recommend and you can also let me know any songs you think I should have had on repeat which aren't featured.
I'm the sort of person who listens to a new song on repeat until I hear a different one I like and then do the same with that one. Anybody else do that?

Fashion Flashback Friday - SAG Awards 2011

Nicole Kidman in Nina Ricci. I'm not 100% why this is one of my top looks - it looks like something you'd see on a widow in a hollywood movie funeral. Something about it just works though. Maybe I've taken it out of 'red carpet' context and just love the look. The hair up and subtle makeup gives the look more elegance.

Lea Michele in Oscar de la Renta. Doing this feature, I was surprised how often Lea cropped up. She isn't somebody I recall discussing much during red carpets but on reflection always falls in my top looks. I love the shape of this dress and how sophisticated it looks with the simple hair and makeup.

Jayma Mays in Jenny Packham. As a fellow redhead, this is not a colour I would touch with a barge pole. Maybe Jayma has just taught me something. It actually looks really nice. The slit breaks the silhouette up as I don't think the dress is as form fitting as it could be above the waist.

Who were you loving at the 2011 SAG Awards?

What's in my travel makeup bag?

I'm not a massive one for spontaneity but I recently took an overnight impulsive trip to London. The reason for my visit? To see the original 'Queen Ginge' on the West End. Lindsay Lohan has been my favourite celebrity for years. I adore the woman! And let's face it, what other chance am I going to get to see her? So I booked on the Wednesday night and by Friday I was sat in the theatre pinching myself. I'm still not convinced it actually happened but let's move on.

I only went overnight (I was there less than 24 hours) so my makeup bag wasn't drastically different to my everyday bag but I thought I'd share what I packed into my absolute favourite Cath Kidston.

  1. Maybelline Master Precise Liquid Eyeliner
  2. Avon Glimmerstick Brow Definer in Blonde
  3. Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer in 1 Fair
  4. Model Co More Brows in Light/ Medium
  5. Carmex Moisture Plus
  6. Manhattan Soft Mat Lipcream in 56K
  7. Essence I <3 Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara in Black
  8. Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation in 010 Light Porcelain
  9. nail clipper

Fashion Flashback Friday - Golden Globes 2013

Hayden Panettiere in Roberto Cavalli. I love Hayden. Personally, I don't think we see enough of her at events like this. This subtle pink dress is super girly and not at all overpowering on her tiny frame. I love the simple necklace and fun clutch as well, to finish off the look.

Lea Michele in Ellie Saab. This look is seriously on point. Lea never (that I can think of) fails to impress me with her red carpet style. This is the perfect shade dress to compliment her tanned skin and the shoes are delicate enough to not throw the look off. I love it.

Adele in Burberry. I only usually like this much black if it's on Daisy Lowe but this is a super flattering dress for Adele. It just works. She looks really sophisticated.

My Essentials: Public Transport (London Edition)

I have just got back from London and I thought I'd share my absolute essentials for public transport.

Hygiene
Confined spaces with other folk, handrails, dirty seats. The travel throughout London is convenience at it's best but can be personal hygiene at its worst.
I always keep hand sanitiser and/or wetwipes in my bag for after I get off the tube or bus. You don't think about what you are holding on to and how many germs are around at the time.

Have ways to keep yourself entertained
99% of my visits to London include a hotel which is a 15 minute bus journey followed by a 40 minute tube journey into Central. This can get pretty boring. Keeping yourself occupied is an absolute must.
It's hard these days to enter a carriage at rush hour and not see at least one kindle. People who have to commute every day must get through an awful lot of books. Jealous!
I tend to make sure I grab whichever free paper is there and listen to music - through earphones of course. There aren't many things worse than having (usually dance) music blaring throughout the bus or carriage.
If you're with somebody play the 'job game'. Try and guess what various people sat around you do for a living. Obviously being very quiet whilst doing so. You may never actually find out but it's funny coming up with different scenarios - at least that's what me and my sister like to do.

Have your Oyster/Travel card to hand
Don't be the annoying one who waits until they get to the gate to fish around in their bag for their oyster or travel card. You're just holding people up. Stand out of the way until you physically have hold of you card.

Sensible Footwear
Comfortable shoes are a must. The tube system itself requires a lot of walking and often standing, there's no guarantee of a seat.
When I'm going for a night out in Central London, I always make sure that my bag is big enough to house a pair of flat compact shoes. My uni trick was to wear my flat shoes, carrying my heels, until I got to my stop and then stick the heels on and the flats in my bag. This reduces the length of time you end up wearing the uncomfortable pair and delays the inevitable moaning that your feet hurt.

Is there anything vital you think I've missed off?

Fashion Flashback Friday - Oscars 2011

Cate Blanchett in Givenchy. She got a lot of stick for this look but I love it. The dress is amazing and Cate has the perfect level of sophistication and elegance to pull it off for me. I love the simplicity of everything else, how the dress is the central focus of the look. Big thumbs up from me.

Mandy Moore in Monique Lhuillier. This oozes class (unlike the word oozes!) She looks like a star is this sparkly princess dress. A real red carpet moment for Mandy.

Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott. I'm running out of amazing things to say about Amy. You all get it by this point, I absolutely love her. This is one of my all time favourite Amy looks. I adore the way the blue compliments her hair perfectly.

Oh Autumn, How I Love Thee

Summer is (finally) behind us. Don't hate, you've all had more than enough sun this year, I just prefer the colder of the four seasons.
Here are just twelve reasons I've got a lot of love Autumn/Winter.

1) Layers. Layers, layers and more layers. The more layers the better in my eyes. A bit like Joey on that episode of friends.
I'm not a seasonal dresser. I wear black tights all year around, I don't do getting my legs out.

Specifics -
I love 'beanie weather'. I don't really have a face that suits hats but I got really into beanies last Winter and I love throwing one to add to the cosy look.
Turtle necks are my favourite. I'm definitely planning on stocking up on every colour I can get my hands on whilst they're in season. They're so classic and versatile.

2)Boots. I love boots, they are my favourite footwear. I'm 100% not a fan of feet. I don't do sandals or flip flops because I'm a firm believer that, unless you're on a beach, there's no reason for me to be able to see your toes. Put them away. My favourite boots always tend to fall apart mid spring which means I have to wait months for them to come back into season to restock. Annoying!

3) Getting to watch Hocus Pocus without people pointing out it's a halloween film. I obviously already know that, I just love it.

4) My favourite candle being stocked again. I only burn one candle and I don't care what time of year it is. I love the Glade Spiced Apple and Cinnamon candle but it's limited edition through Autumn and Winter so I literally form a collection to last me the year. I'm down to my last three but luckily they've resurfaced in shops.

5) Tea. Flavoured tea to be more exact. Lipton Warming Apple and Cinnamon and Twinings Gingerbread Green Tea are my favourites. They also help make any room smell awesome.

6) Rain. Call me crazy but I just love the stuff. I really like the smell and there's something seriously refreshing about rain.
7) Thunderstorms are even better. I love the sound of the thunder and lightning talking to each other. Not to mention how peaceful and clear the air gets after a big storm.

Especially when......

8) Drinking wine in front of the fire. There's nothing like coming home from work and cosying up in front of the fire with a glass of wine to watch tv.

9) Having the electric blanket on making it super hard to get out of bed. I tend to snooze my alarm a lot more in Autumn.

10) Flushed cheeks from being out in the cold.

11) When the leaves become the same colour as my hair.

12) I love finishing work when it's dark. I'm not sure why I like this so much but it's been dark when I've left all this week and I just find it really satisfying to walk home in the dark.

Fashion Flashback Friday - British Fashion Awards 2013

Suki Waterhouse in Burberry. Suki and Burberry are a perfect fit. This colour is perfect for Suki. I love the pastel on the red carpet and the simple accessories. The deep V is what takes this to the next level for me. The colour is girly but the cut is edgy creating the perfect balance.

Laura Bailey in Roksanda Ilincic. The length of this dress isn't something that appears on a lot of red carpets. At least, it's not something, I usually take notice of. The high neck and full skirt could have meant that this dress was frumpy but the higher hem creates elegance. This is Laura Bailey doing what Laura Bailey does best.

Daisy Lowe in Erdem. Daisy is one of the only people who can pull off this much black and not look like like she's in mourning., especially when pairing the look with a black bag.
I love this. I especially love the lace detailing which breaks up the colour.

Glossybox Breakdown - September 2014

Unboxing video

The box didn't come with the usual card describing all the products so I've done my own research.
These are the products I received in my September box.

1) L'Oreal Mythic Oil
'will leave your hair feeling beautifully tame, manageable and looking shiny'

This is a 45ml bottle which looks like a deluxe travel size. It would be perfect for trips away.
The 125ml bottle of this product is on Feel Unique for £13.60.

I use this oil on towel dried hair before blow drying and it helps make my hair really soft and shiny.
This does mean that I've been having to wash my hair more often than normal. Usually I get away with every 5-8 days but I've been having to wash it every 3 days.

2) Nivea Micellar Cleansing Water
'cleanses deeply, removes make-up and moisturises in one step'

This is on the Nivea website for £4.07 but almost everywhere on the high street is cheaper and it is currently on offer in Tesco for £1.99.

I had wanted to try a cleansing water for so long but was always worried about wasting my money on something that was just going to irritate my skin. A lot of the time, even the products that claim to be sensitive, bother me.
I have actually already used half of this bottle and I've got no complaints. Usually new skincare breaks me out but I've had no major issues with this. I may very well buy another when it runs out. Especially with how cheap it is.
I have found the best way to use this is to use a makeup wipe to remove my makeup and then go in with this water on a cotton pad to remove anything left and cleanse. It doesn't get all of my makeup off when used by itself.

3) Skin Pep samples
These are sample size sachets.
Brightening Enzyme & Acid Peel - 'targets dark spots & dissolves dead skin to leave exfoliated soft bright beautiful skin'

The full size product is 180ml and retails for £89.99(!!!)

Dark Circle Eraser - 'uses anti-oxidant ingredients to boost collagen in the delicate under-eye area'

The full size of this product is 15ml and retails for £44.99(!!!)

I can guarantee there's no way I'll be buying either of these. Those prices are ridiculous to me.

4) Model Co More Brows Fibre Gel
'Extend, reshape and thicken brows in an instant'

I've already misplaced mine (whoops) but I think we received the full sized product which actually retails for £14.95.

This is the perfect shade for my brows. I actually shaped one of my brows slightly too much recently so this has helped disguise my mistake until it grows back.

5) Nails Inc Matte Topcoat

This retails for £12.

This one product almost doubles the amount of nail varnishes you own. I love matte nails but I find that most of the shades available are at the darker end of the spectrum. This means that I can create some pastel matte looks for the coming seasons which I think will look great with a darker wardrobe.

Big thumbs up from me. I was really impressed with this month's box :)
